Shirley J. Carson, age 87, of Monmouth, Illinois; passed away at 1:43 am
in OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois. Shirley was born
on April 24, 1932 in Monmouth, Illinois and is the daughter of Theodore
Roosevelt and Loretta Swan Tarr. Shirley was raised in Monmouth where
she attended local schools and graduated from Monmouth High School in
the class of 1950. She then completed two years at Carl Sandburg
College. Shirley married John Edward Carson on September 11, 1948. He
preceded her in January of 1999. Shirley was a school bus drive for
Cavanuagh Bus Service for many years and later taught at Lutheran
Pre-school for a number of years. She was of the Presbyterian Faith.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Johnson of Galesburg, Illinois
and her son, Larry Carson of Monmouth, Illinois. There are eight
grandchildren surviving, Jonathan Carson and Sarah, Jessica Caslin and
Brian, Jenna Purlee and Rob, Laura Smith and Isaac, Frank Johnson and
Pierre Beaudoin, Jonna and Dan Shaub, Dianna Allen and Chad, Dana Adcock and Dave. Also surviving is her sister, Elizabeth Carr of Leander, Texas and two nieces, Debbie Dobson of Auburn, Illinois and Pam Lamphin of Oskaloosa, Iowa. She is preceded in her death by her parents, husband,
three brothers, and one sister.
Private interment of her cremated remains was in the Warren County
Memorial Park Cemetery. A memorial service may be planned for Shirley at
a later date by her family at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. A
memorial fund is being established for Lutheran Daycare of Monmouth,
