Here’s the WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the week ending Mar.8th, 2020:

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is senior boys track long distance runner, Carlos Serratos. Carlos got his indoor track season off to a great start. He was a top-10 finisher in two events against much larger school competition in a meet at Illinois College in Jacksonville. First, Carlos placed 3rd in the 800 meter run and then ran a 7th place time in the 1600 meter run.

The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is sophomore boys basketball player, Cormaic Flynn. In just his first season of varsity basketball, Cormaic was placed on the Lincoln Trail All-Conference list. His 10 point, six rebound per game average was good enough for league coaches to earn Cormaic an Honorable Mention nod. Defensively, Cormaic led the Red Storm in steals for the season.

The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is senior boys basketball player, Nate Bigger. Nate finished his final season of high school basketball by earning a berth on the Lincoln Trail All-Conference second team. After missing the first part of the basketball season with an injury, Nate contributed right away, both on the court and providing leadership off the court as well.

The Abingdon-Avon Tornado Athlete of the Week is sophomore girls basketball player, Ashley Jones. Ashley was an honorable mention selection on the Class 1A AP All-State list. She averaged just under 19 points and hauled down nearly eight rebounds a game for the Tornadoes.

The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is senior boys track and field athlete, Cain Johnson. Cain has placed in the top-4 in the shot put in both of his indoor meets this spring. He was 1st in the Steve Coffman meet at Knox College. Cain threw the shot even farther in a meet involving much larger schools at the Champaign Centennial Charger Invite, placing 4th.

Congrats to all of these student-athletes!! Thanks to our AOTW sponsors, MC Sport and More, McDonough Telephone Cooperative (mdtc), Tompkins State Bank and Kehoe Eye Care!!
