William C. “Bill” Hurka, age 63, of Biggsville, Illinois, passed away at
4:23 PM on Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at Roseville Nursing and Rehab in
Roseville, Illinois. He was born January 8, 1957 in Burlington, Iowa,
the son of John Kenneth and Betty Delores (Spangler) Hurka. Bill
attended school locally and graduated from Union High School. He worked
31 years for Twomey Company in Gladstone, Illinois. Later, Bill worked
at West Central F.S. He enjoyed tinkering with tractors, raising
chickens, and attending flea markets. From 1978-2013, he served on the
Gladstone Volunteer Fire Department. From 2011 to the present, Bill
served the Biggsville Volunteer Fire Department.
Bill is survived by one daughter, Kelly Merideth of Gladstone, Illinois,
one son, Mike (Felicia) Hurka of Burlington, Iowa, three grandchildren;
William Merideth, Austin Merideth, and Kaden Parker, one sister, Wanda
(David) Coppes of Yarmouth, Iowa, and one brother, LeRoy (Kim) Hurka of
Gladstone, Illinois. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. He
is preceded in death by his parents.
A graveside funeral service for Bill Hurka is planned for 10:30 AM on
Wednesday, March 18, 2020 at the Oquawka Cemetery. Visitation is planned
from 5:00-7:00 PM on Tuesday, March 17, 2020 at Turnbull Funeral Home in
Oquawka, Illinois. A memorial is being established for the Biggsville
