David L. Vancil Sr.

David L. Vancil Sr., age 69, of Stronghurst, Illinois, passed away at 10:00 p.m. Friday, April 10, 2020 at his home.  He was born October 17, 1950 in Burlington, Iowa, the son of Ellis “Bud” and Juanita Rosenbalm Vancil.  On September 25, 1967, he married Margaret Cable in Kahoka, Missouri.

David was a 1969 graduate of Stronghurst High School.  Following graduation, he joined the family business, working with his father and family at Vancil Locker Service in Stronghurst.  Upon the death of his father, he purchased the business and  operated it for the past forty years. David was past president of the Illinois Association of Meat Processors.  He was a volunteer fireman for the M.S.T. Fire Department in Stronghurst for 52 years, and also served as an  E.M.T. for the Stronghurst Volunteer Ambulance for many years.  He served on the Stronghurst Village Board and the Henderson County Auxiliary Police for many years.  In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, and family.  He was a member of the Stronghurst United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret, four sons, David (Kelli) Vancil Jr. of Little York, IL, Arbry Vancil of Stronghurst, Doug (Brenda) Vancil of Smithshire, IL, Brayden Vancil, at home, two daughters, Kristin Vancil of Rio, IL, Amber (Nick) Olson of Burlington, IA, nineteen grandchildren, two brothers, Ellis Vancil Jr of Mesa, AZ, Jeff Vancil of Stronghurst, and two sisters, Grace Ochsner of Reynolds, IL, and Chris (Paul) Cook of Stronghurst.  He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Robert Vancil and one sister, Linda Effland.

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, no services are planned at this time.  A Celebration of David’s life will be scheduled at a later date.  Memorials have been established for St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital and M.S.T Fire Department.  Memorials may be sent in care of Banks & Beals Funeral Home, PO Box 299, Stronghurst, IL 61480.  Please visit David’s obituary at banksandbeals.com to sign his guest book and leave a condolence.
