Harold C. Griffith, 89, of Galesburg, died at 7:04 p.m. Thursday, April 16, 2020, at home, surrounded by family.

He was born June 19, 1930, in Galesburg, the son of Chester E. and Gladys M. (Morris) Griffith.  He married Virginia L. Faust on November 19, 1960, in Galesburg.  She preceded him in death on November 22, 2018, after 58 years of marriage.

He is survived by a son, David Griffith of Galesburg; two daughters, Jean Griffith of Columbia, Missouri and Linda (Chris) Krei of Chicago; three grandchildren, Haven, Jansen, and Caden Krei; a brother, Lawrence Griffith of Galesburg; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Griffith of Galesburg; and nieces and nephews.  In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Raymond Griffith.

Harold graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in architecture.  He was an architect and partner in the firm Weber, Griffith, & Mellican for many years.  He then owned and operated Harold C. Griffith Consulting Architect, where he worked with School District 205 consulting on life safety issues.  He was a third generation, life-long member of Central Congregational Church and was currently the second longest standing member behind his brother.  Harold was an avid sports fan, enjoying playing fast pitch softball and attending GHS sporting events.  Harold loved nature, whether it was hiking on nature trails or camping with his family at their annual trip to White Pines State Park.  He also loved to travel and tell stories.  Harold was an incredible husband, father, and grandfather, who shared his love of adventure with his family.

Harold served in the United States Army during the Korean War.  He was a member of Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285.

Cremation will be accorded.  Family and friends may pay their respects from 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, 2020 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel.  Due to social distancing limitations related to the COVID-19 pandemic, the immediate family will not be present.  Private family graveside service will be Wednesday, April 22, 2020 in Linwood Cemetery.  A celebration of life service at Central Congregational Church will be announced at a later date.  Memorial contributions may be made to Central Congregational Church for stained glass window restoration.  Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
