Norman G. “Norm” Crittenden, 80, formerly of Galesburg, died at 11:40 a.m. Tuesday, March 31, 2020, in Ankeny, Iowa.

He was born December 4, 1939, in Henderson, Illinois, the son of Gerald L. and Blanche (Folger) Crittenden.  He married Mary F. Gottlieb on February 13, 1965, in Galesburg.  She preceded him in death August 26, 2019 after over 54 years of marriage.

Norm is survived by his children and grandchildren, Chris (Tim) Peterson of Ankeny, Iowa and their children, Matt, Jason, and Kayla Peterson; Kelly (Mark) Berardelli of Mokena, Illinois and their children, Joey and Ryan Berardelli; Gerald “Jerry” Crittenden of Hibbing, Minnesota; and Steve (Mandy) Crittenden of Cambridge, Minnesota and their children, Parker and Avery Crittenden.  In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents.

Norm was raised and educated in Galesburg, graduating from Galesburg High School in 1957.  He served in the United States Navy from 1959 to 1963 as an air traffic controller. While serving, he earned the Department of Navy Good Conduct Award.  After his time in the Navy, Norm worked in management for Gale Products Division of Outboard Marine Corporation in Galesburg for 21 years.  When Gale Products closed, he worked as a supervisor for a dye cast plant in Sandwich, Illinois.  He then worked for NAEIR in Galesburg in management for 16 years before retiring in 2001.

Norm enjoyed golfing, reading, fishing, gardening, and canoeing.  He also enjoyed traveling and working on his family genealogy.  Norm was a dedicated blood donor, with over 20 gallons donated.  He was a beloved father and grandfather who was extremely proud of his family.

Cremation will be accorded.  Due to social distancing limitations related to the COVID-

19 pandemic, celebration of life services will be planned for later.  Burial will be with Mary in East Linwood Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross.  Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services
