Sandburg Donates Supplies From Health Professions Programs to Knox Co. Emergency Management Agency

Share

Carl Sandburg College recently donated supplies from its health professions programs to the Knox County Emergency Management Agency in an effort to help medical professionals and first responders treating patients during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The equipment came from materials typically used by students and instructors in Sandburg’s nursing, medical assistant, phlebotomy, nursing assistant and dental hygiene programs. Because the College has transitioned to online instruction for the remainder of the spring semester, there was not an existing need for many of the supplies utilized in classes for those programs.

“Sandburg has longstanding, positive relationships with the hospitals and other medical providers in our district, and many of their employees are our alumni,” Sandburg President Dr. Seamus Reilly said. “We wanted to do our part to support those who are putting their own health and safety on the line each day during this time to help others. We hope this donation will help keep them and everyone else in our communities safe.”

The donated items included:

  • Nearly 7,000 gloves of various styles and sizes
  • 2,425 face masks, including surgical masks, masks with eye shields, masks with ear loops and tie-on masks
  • 300 bouffant caps
  • 150 shoe covers
  • 120 isolation gowns and lab jackets
  • Six containers of surface disinfectant wipes
  • Four pairs of safety glasses
  • Three cans of hand sanitizer foam
  • Two infectious disease kits
