Cynthia J. “Cindy” Main, 68, of Galesburg, lost her courageous, inspirational battle with cancer on Monday, May 25, 2020.

She was born October 17, 1951, in Galesburg, the daughter of Willis M. and Carole A. (Davis) Hyman.  She had been married to David Main for many years before divorcing.  He preceded her in death.  She later was engaged to Alan Benson and they enjoyed many happy years together doing the things they loved before he preceded her in death.

She is survived by her parents, Willis and Carole Hyman of Galesburg; two sons, Tony Main of Peoria and Dylan (Patti Tucker) Main of Galesburg; three sisters, Mary (Craig) Foster of Bushnell, Jenny Hyman of Galesburg, and Roxie (Bill) Leahy of Alexis; an honorary sister, Carla (Ron) Promisson of Bushnell; a brother, Shawn (Nannette Vaglica) Hyman of California; nieces and nephews, David Armstrong, Nick Hyman, Carley Promisson, Mackenzie Foster, Dustin Foster, Tyler Leahy, and Zach Leahy; three great nieces and three great nephews, who she adored; Alan’s children, Rodney (Juliana Maday) Benson of Chicago, Julie (Greg) Wells of Georgia, and Scott (Angie) Benson of Knoxville; and Alan’s grandchildren who she regarded as her own, Dustin, Brandon, Paige, Morgan, Connor (Angie), Makayla, and Sasha; and great granddaughter, Evelyn.  She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Charley Armstrong and Susie Hyman.

Cindy worked as a postal clerk for the United States Postal Service for 37 years before retiring.  After retirement, she worked at Burgland Drug Store and HyVee.  She was raised and educated in Galesburg, graduating from Costa Catholic High School.

Cindy truly loved spending time with her family and friends.  Her friends provided much love and support to her during her struggles with cancer, and she was always appreciative of that.  She enjoyed shopping, movies, reading, musicals, traveling, eating out, and Native American art.  She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.

Cremation will be accorded.  A celebration of life will be announced at a later time when we can once again gather.  Memorial contributions may be made to Illinois Cancer Care.  Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel is handling arrangements for the family.  Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
