M. Joan Johnson, 90, of Knoxville, died at 9:37 p.m. Tuesday, May 5, 2020 at home.

Joan was born November 3, 1929 in Galesburg, the daughter of Leo and Inez Gertrude Victoria (Carlson) Taylor.  She married Dick Johnson on October 22, 1955 in Galesburg.  He preceded her in death on July 12, 2012.  Joan is survived by one daughter, Keri Ann Purcell of Knoxville; two grandsons, Logan (Brianna) Purcell and Travis (Lisa) Purcell; and four great grandchildren, Rylan, Ella, Ryder, and Bennett.  Along with her parents and husband, Joan was preceded in death by two sisters, Patricia Moen and Mary Jane Shotwell; and one infant brother.

Joan graduated from Galesburg High School and later Brown’s Business College in Galesburg.  She worked as a secretary at Admiral for several years.  After marriage Joan stayed at home.  Later she worked for Dr. Hickerson in Knoxville.  Joan was a member of the Knoxville Junior Women’s Club, M.I. Club, Amethysts Club, and numerous bridge clubs.  She was also a long time member at Grace Lutheran Church in Knoxville.  Joan enjoyed travelling, taking numerous trips to Europe.

Cremation rites have been accorded.  Private family graveside services will be held at Oneida Cemetery, Oneida, IL.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg.  Memorials may be made to the Make A Wish Foundation or a charity of the donor’s choosing.  Online expressions of sympathy may be sent at www.watsonthomas.com
