Judith “Judi” Vancil-Brooks, 74, of East Moline, formerly of Galesburg, died at 7:43 a.m. Thursday, May 7, 2020 in Select Specialty Hospital in Davenport.
Judi was born May 26, 1945 in Galesburg, the daughter of John J. and Dorothy (Mealman) Stranger. She married Rusty M. Vancil on March 28, 1980 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on January 10, 2002. She later married James Brooks on May 13, 2006 in East Moline.
She is survived by her husband, Jim; her mother, Dorothy Brewer of Galesburg; a son Kyle (Tammy) Vancil of Bloomington; a brother, Jeff (Joyce) Stanger of Elk Grove, California; four sisters, Cindy (Rick) Wagner of Galesburg, Colleen Surber of Galesburg, Keri (Mike) Robbins of Woodhull, and Tonia Burton of Galesburg; and two grandchildren, Kyle (Danellia) Vancil of Muscatine, Iowa and Tifani (J.P.) Shea of Bloomington. In addition to her first husband, she was preceded in death by her father.
Judi attended Galesburg High School, graduating in 1963. She was raised in Galesburg and moved to East Moline in 2006. She worked as the assistant manager at Big Lots for five years and then was an operator at the Cottage Hospital Switchboard for 10 years.
Judi is a member of the Bible Holiness Church in East Moline. She enjoyed sewing, baking, ceramics and was involved with her church.
An open visitation will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 10, 2020 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel. Due to social distancing limitations related to the COVID-19 pandemic, there will not be any physical interaction with the family. Private family graveside service will be Monday, May 11, 2020, in Memorial Park Cemetery. Rev. Ken Beach will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to Bible Holiness Church.
