Loretta Mae Finn Carson “Granny”, 89, of Galesburg, died at 2:09 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, 2020 at Unity Point Methodist Hospital, Peoria.

Loretta was born January 12, 1931 in Milwaukee, WI, the daughter of Lawrence and Aldine Margerette (Carter) Finn.  She married John Clay Carson on January 14, 1948 in Galesburg.  He preceded her in death on December 5, 1990.  Loretta is survived by six children, Frank (Brenda) Carson of Galesburg, Margerette Carson of Peoria, Carolyn (Cleatis Goodlow) Carson of Portland, OR, Leslie Griffin of Portland, OR, Thurman (SheShe) Carson of Minifee, CA, and Kathy Carson of Galesburg; 28 grandchildren; 53 great grandchildren; and 22 great great grandchildren; and one sister, Samuella McGruder of Galesburg.  Along with her parents and husband, Loretta was preceded in death by one sister, Leota Williams; 2 grandchildren; and one great grandson.

Loretta was the family matriarch.  She spent many years caring for and raising her family.  She was a strong woman who had a heart of gold; she was a great listener, story teller, and was always there to give advice.  Loretta was a top notch cook, and always hosted family dinners at her home.  She had a strong faith in God and was well versed in scripture. 

Due to social distancing requirements surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, no official visitation will be held, however, friends may pay respects from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, 2020 at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg.  Private family funeral services will be held.  Loretta will be laid to rest at East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg.  Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.watsonthomas.com
