Shirley Jane “Janie” (Coursey) Steinert

Shirley Jane “Janie” Steinert of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away on May 12, 2020 after a brave battle with cancer. She passed away at her son, Rob’s home in Prescott Valley, AZ with her sons by her side. Janie was born in Monmouth, Illinois to Elveree (McClain) and John Coursey on March 3, 1942. Janie attended Garfield Elementary Schoool in Monmouth and later graduated from Monmouth High School in 1960. Janie married John Steinert in 1965 and he passed away in 1980. She is survived by their children Rob Steinert of Prescott,Valley, AZ; and Ryan (Denise) Steinert of Cottonwood, AZ. Janie has five grandsons including Nathan (Elizabeth) Steinert, Jonathan Steinert, Justin Steinert, Alec Steinert and Anderson Steinert. Janie has four granddaughters including Regan Steinert, Addison Steinert, Amy Jane Steinert and Autumn Steinert. She has two great grandchildren Adeline Steinert and Lochlan Steinert. 

She is also survived by her three sisters, Sandy (Bill) Axline of Monmouth, IL, Ruth Foley of Monmouth, IL and Deeny Simpson of Palm Desert, CA. Also surviving are five brothers, Ed (Paula) Endicott of Monmouth, IL, Gary (Judy) Endicott of Ashland, OR., John (Thresa) Coursey of Owensboro, KY Chuck Coursey of Palm Springs, CA and Steve (Kathy) Coursey of Galesburg, IL; along with many nieces and nephews. 

Janie is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her sister, Beverly Frieden and brother-in-law, Wilbur Frieden of New Boston, IL. 

Janie and her husband lived in the New Boston, IL area where she was employed with the Aledo Phone Company and Andalusia Community Bank. After her sons were raised she returned to Monmouth, IL and was employed with Axline Pharmacy for many years. She retired in 2007. 

Janie was devoted to her family. She was a wonderful wife to her husband; she was an exceptional mother, a proud grandmother and a loving sister. Her family loved and cherished her in life and will continue to keep her in their hearts forever. 

Janie’s legacy is the kindness and love she gave to her family and friends. She had a wonderful sense of humor and quick wit.. In her retirement she enjoyed reading, crosswords, old movies and especially liked visiting with family and friends. 

She will be forever missed. Due to Covid-19 virus recommendations and restrictions, a private family graveside service will be held in the New Boston Cemetery. The family has suggested memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
