Fields in our area are in better shape than this time last year, but across the state there is still a lot of planting to go and some areas keep getting pounded with rain, says Warren-Henderson Farm Bureau President Jared Kunkle:
“Fortunately some of the crop went in earlier and it was tall enough it could survive. As depressing as last week was with no sun, it was probably the best thing that could happen for us for the crop with the water we had because it wasn’t trying to grow hard. So it wasn’t suffocating under the water as much as it would on those hot humid days. If it was under, it just bakes then,” Kunkle reports.
Post-spraying of corn for the second pass is currently going on in the area and another pass of nitrogen will be seen being applied in the coming weeks.
The Warren-Henderson Farm Bureau will be holding their annual meeting virtually this year via Zoom during the evening of Wednesday, June 24th. Manager Gina Long encourages all members to listen in:
“We will simply ask if people want to contact the office via phone or email we will get them that meeting and link information. We encourage them to reach out to us just so we can have a form of registration on our end,” Long states.
The Foundation Auction will also be held online over the course of multiple days beginning June 24th.
