On Wednesday, June 3rd at 09:37 AM., the Monmouth Fire Department responded to reports of smoke coming from the inside of an apartment located at 200 East Harlem Avenue in Monmouth. Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy smoke to be coming from a 3rd-floor apartment. Firefighters located the source of the fire and were able to quickly contain the area before the flames spread to adjacent apartments. Due to the large volume of smoke that had spread throughout multiple floors, firefighters and police started a search for any occupants who had not yet evacuated. During their search, the teams encountered multiple residents who they were able to assist with evacuation.

Multiple patients were transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation. No human fatalities are reported, although one domestic pet did succumb to smoke-related injuries.

Other agencies who responded to help with the incident were the Monmouth Police Department and Galesburg Hospital Ambulance Service.

No further information is available at this time.
