A peaceful, youth-led protest in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement will take place on Saturday from 5 to 6 pm in downtown Monmouth. Monmouth-Roseville Sophomores Ruby Williams and Anna Dillard, along with assistance from former M-R teacher Jake Murdock, will be leading the event. Murdock jumped right in to help and allow the girls to share their voice:
“One of the things that the girls really wanted to show this community is that young people have a voice and it is an important voice and they are very educated on things that I learn from them all the time. I think adults in the community and around the world need to listen a little more closely to what the kids are saying and not just brush them off as they don’t know what they are talking about. They really do know what they are talking about and I think that is important. These kids are going to be the future in just a few years, so I think that it is important to take what they are saying seriously and support them when they have things to say,” Murdock states.
The youth-led peaceful protest is in cooperation with the City of Monmouth and Monmouth Police Department.
