Betty D. Otto Roman, 88, of Peoria, formerly of Alpha, died at 1:42 a.m. Monday, July 27, 2020, at home.
She was born February 18, 1932, in London Mills, the daughter of Wallace M. and Goldie M. (Woodruff) Corman. She married Burdette Benjamin Lutz, who preceded her in death. She then married George F. Otto, Jr. on November 5, 1966. He preceded her in death on November 30, 1993. She later married George W. Roman on May 18, 1996. He also preceded her in death on June 3, 2011.
She is survived by two daughters, Luann (David) Smith of Orlando, Florida and Lisa (Todd) Richardson of Peoria; five grandchildren, Anastasia Benson, Megan Richardson, Tammy Doran, Tracey Mangall, and Michelle Leiby; 10 great grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Michael B. Lutz and Steven R. Lutz; a daughter, Christene L. Lutz; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Christene Miller; and two sisters, Rosa M. Pigg and Eva B. Wolford.
Betty worked as a lead woman for Maytag from 1966 to 1993 on lines 214 and 218. While married to George Otto, they owned and operated Otto’s Antiques in Galesburg and Alexis. Betty enjoyed gardening, cooking, and baking pies. Betty and George Roman enjoyed many years Polka dancing together.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 31, 2020, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel. Graveside service will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, August 1, 2020, in the Alexis Cemetery. Due to guidelines associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing and facemasks will be required.
