The number of days of quarantining for a positive or possible COVID exposure has shifted and OSF HealthCare Chief Medical Officer of the Monmouth, Galesburg, and Kewanee region, Dr. Cliff Martin, reports that is based on the severity of symptoms:
“It is also evolving because we really are looking at all the different shades of COVID-19 and they are really looking at what is the need and length of quarantine, which is shortened from originally fourteen days, then it went to ten, and now eight for those folks who are minimally symptomatic and don’t require more intensive care or therapy. Those folks who are remaining ill, whether they are at home or certainly whether they had to be hospitalized, are still recovering from their illness and in a sense being quarantined still because of the risk they may be a less risk of spreading the virus than before, but they are still being watched. Those who are more positive and have been less ill, the quarantine is decreasing,” states. Dr. Martin.
