Illinois’ governor JB Pritzker doesn’t think there will be high school football this fall. On Monday, the governor said he expects the IHSA to shut down high school sports because of the coronavirus. The IHSA is set to meet today to discuss that very question. The group has said in the past few weeks that it would move ahead with high school sports only if the state Board of Education and the Illinois Department of Public Health’s safety guidelines can be met. The IHSA Board of Directors will meet at 8:30 this morning and will send out a press release at 2:00 this afternoon with the minutes of the meeting. Many options of what will happen to fall sports are on the table after a few high-ranking members of the IHSA took part in a round table discussion with leaders of the Illinois Department of Public Health and the Illinois State Board of Education last Friday. We’ll have a full report on today’s announcement on Thursday morning’s local sports report on AM 1330/FM 94.1 WRAM and Sunny 97.7 WMOI.
