John Russell Selman, 72, of Henderson, died unexpectedly at home at 8:35 a.m. Wednesday, July 8, 2020.

John was born on September 26, 1947 in Kewanee, the son of Russell LeRoy and Adah Isabelle (Simpson) Selman. He graduated from ROVA High School in 1965. Following high school he was drafted in to the US Army. After he was honorably discharged he attended WIU and went on to a career as a supervisor at Maytag, retiring in 1999.

John married Connie Sue Cambron on June 5, 1971 in Kewanee. Connie survives of Henderson; as does one son, John Blair (Cori) Selman of Altona; two daughters, Barb Grawe of Altona and Brenda (Keith) Albers of New Baden; his beloved eight grandchildren, Cassandra and Lucas Grawe, Haley, Bryce, and Lily Selman, Lacey, A.J., and Jacob Albers; and his great grandson, Wyatt. John is also survived by one brother, Harold (Peach) Selman of Knoxville; and two sisters, Susan (Marvin) Klusman and Judy McGaan both of Galesburg. Along with his parents, John was preceded in death by one sister, Helen Morgan.

John was dedicated to his work for over 30 years, his dedication continued with his love of landscaping and remodeling their home. He loved spending time outdoors, especially camping and traveling to Colorado. John was an avid lifelong fan of the Green Bay Packers as well as a Ford man. He enjoyed music especially Bob Dylan. John was a devoted husband to his wife Connie for 49 years, a proud father to his children, and especially proud of his grandchildren and great grandson.

Visitation will be 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 12, 2020 at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, social distancing, facemasks, and limited occupancy will be enforced. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 13, 2020 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery, Altona where military rites will be performed. Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.watsonthomas.com.
