Scammers Targeting Elderly in IDES Unemployment Scam

Share

A scam targeting the elderly has been brought to the attention of Illinois lawmakers. Residents are receiving credit cards from the Illinois Department of Employment Services they have not requested, which appear to come from scammers targeting federal money, reports State Representative Dan Swanson (R-Alpha):

“This was identified about a week ago and the governor put out a press release saying that is people receive that type of card, they should call IDES and they will go through a series of prompts. It needs to be reported so we can track and identify where this fraud is coming from, where it is taking place. It is believed it has been associated with the IDES and unemployment even in years past. Once the IDES fraud department starts putting this together, then of course the federal trade commission will become involved because it is federal money being targeted that is on these cards,” Representative Swanson states.
