Now that some restrictions in Illinois have been lifted, the Western Illinois Regional Council (WIRC) is once again able to meet face to face with clients. WIRC serves Knox, Warren, McDonough, Fulton, Hancock, and Henderson Counties. Debbie, a Preventionist with WIRC, shares the available services to residents in those six counties:
“For the community action agency, we have a food pantry, a clothing center, homeless prevention assistance, housing rehabilitation, Illinois home weatherization program, low income home energy assistance program, project Santa, and we have a scholarship program. In Victim Services, we have 24/7 free and confidential services. We have a hotline, we do emergency medical advocacy, so for anybody who is in an abusive relationship and had to seek medical assistance in the emergency room, we will show up there. We do free counseling, free legal advocacy, so we assist people with filling out paperwork for emergency orders of protection, orders of protection, no contact, and things like that. Then we have professional training and prevention education,” states Debbie.
