Legislative Branch Appropriations Bill Heads to House Floor for Final Passage
Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (IL-17) helped pass a Legislative Branch Appropriations funding bill out of the powerful House Appropriations Committee that would fully fund the House Wounded Warrior Fellowship Program. This program, supported by Congresswoman Bustos, offers two-year paid fellowships to provide veterans with experience and exposure to broaden their career opportunities. Many participants are later offered full-time employment in the Legislative Branch.
“There is no doubt that veterans make our workplaces stronger,” said Congresswoman Bustos, a member of the House Appropriations Committee. “The experiences they bring to the table are invaluable and can shape the way we write laws in Congress to improve people’s lives. The Wounded Warrior Fellowship Program is not only an opportunity for veterans to build their professional careers but will enhance the work of the Congressional offices across the country.”
Today’s legislation provides $3.975 million for the Wounded Warrior Fellowship Program and the Congressional Gold Star Family Fellowship Program, which is a $975,000 increase from Fiscal Year 2020 levels. Wounded Warrior Fellowship Program participants must be honorably discharged veterans who were released from active duty within the last five years. The Congressional Gold Star Family Fellowship Program is being funded for the first time since being established in late 2019. The program provides certain family members of deceased members of the Armed Forces or deceased veterans a 12-month paid fellowship in the office of a Member of the House.
