Arvella G. “Gay” Burgess, 69, of Galesburg, died on Tuesday, August 18, 2020, 5:45 PM, at Marigold Nursing and Rehab Center, Galesburg.

Gay was born on October 20, 1950 in Quincy. She was the daughter of Frank and Alma (Judd) Vancil. Gay married Larry Allen on November 19, 1969 in Galesburg. Together they celebrated 24 years of marriage until he preceded her in death in 1994. She later married Kenny Burgess on December 29, 1994 in Gilson. She is survived by her children, Larry (Cheri) Allen of West Branson, MO, and Wendy Montenaro of Galesburg; six grandchildren, Brandon Sneyd of San Diego, CA, Amy (Jared) Graver of Fairview, Keegan (Ashley) Sneyd of Bartonville, Bayleigh Allen of Hanna City, James Montenaro of Galesburg, and Isabella “Izzy” Montenaro of Mt. Pulaski; and several nieces and nephews. Gay was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Kenny, one sister and five brothers.

Gay retired from Derby Industries after 15 years of service. She loved her dogs. Most of all, Gay loved spending time with her family. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.

Cremation rites have been accorded. No services are planned at this time. Arrangements have been entrusted with Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes and Crematory, Knoxville. Memorials in Gay’s honor may be donated to the Knox County Humane Society. On-line condolences or expressions of sympathy may be left to the family at www.hurd-hendricks.com.
