Big Ten and Pac-12 Postpone Fall Sports

Share

The Big Ten Conference is postponing all fall sports this season due to safety concerns about COVID-19. This includes all regular-season contests and Big Ten Championships and Tournaments. The fall sports included in this announcement are football, men’s and women’s cross country, field hockey, men’s and women’s soccer, and women’s volleyball. The conference says if conditions improve in relation to the coronavirus, it will consider a return after the new year. Commissioner Kevin Warren says, “it became abundantly clear that there was too much uncertainty regarding potential medical risks to allow our student-athletes to compete this fall.”

The Pac-12 Conference is also postponing all fall sports. Both the Big Ten and Pac-12 plan to explore the possibility of playing their fall seasons in the spring. Other power-5 conferences are expected to make similar announcements this week.
