Dean E. Hunter, 90, of Monmouth, formerly of Galesburg, IL passed away at 9:15 am, Friday, August 7, 2020 at his home.

Dean was born December 1, 1929 in Galesburg, IL the son of Cecil and Eva (Smith) Hunter.  He was raised and educated in Galesburg, graduating from Galesburg High School and he later attended Brown’s Business College in Galesburg. IL

Dean served with the United States Army During the Korean War.

Dean married Doella Tyldesley on March 19, 1961 and she passed away September 6, 2017.

Dean started out farming near Abingdon. He lastly worked as the yard manager for Simpson – Powelson Lumber Co in Galesburg before retiring in 1989.

He was a member of the Galesburg United Methodist Church.  He enjoyed woodworking, the outdoors, horses and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his 2 daughters, Deborah (David) Greenlief of Monmouth, IL and Denise (Eric) Gramer of Prospect Height, IL; 1 son, Keith (Ann) Hunter of Des Moines, IA; 8 grandchildren, Matthew Greenlief, Mark Greenlief, Jacob Greenlief, Nathan Gramer, Daniel Gramer, Emily Gramer, Andy Spraque and Allison Hunter; 14 loving great grandchildren; 1 great great granddaughter; 1 sister, Alice Powelson of Ft. Myers, FL; and 2 nephews, Jim Powelson and Dave Powelson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.

Private family graveside services will be held at Abingdon Cemetery, Abingdon, IL. Memorial may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association and sent to the funeral home. McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL.  is in charge of the local arrangements.
