Golf

The Macomb Country Club held its annual Gary Saunders Golf Invitational on Saturday. Due to the IHSA’s Covid-19 protocols, the tournament included fewer high school boys teams than normal, with eight schools participating this season. It was not surprising that the host Macomb Bombers blew away the field on its way to a tournament team title. The Bombers qualified for the IHSA state finals last season and has five golfers back on the squad this season. Macomb shot an 18-hole team score of 302, followed by Bloomington High School with 327 and Rock Island Alleman with a 339. Monmouth-Roseville placed 8th with a team score of 388. TJ Barger won individual meet medalist honors with an even-par 71. Macomb had an amazing six of the eight top scorers in the tournament, led by junior Connor Hamm’s 73 and fellow junior Glenn Sutton’s 74. Monmouth-Roseville was led in scoring by senior DJ Reading’s 92, which was good enough for 24th place. John Jusczcyk’s and Noah Clark’s 98’s and Jimmy Connell’s 100 rounded out the scoring for the Titans.

Junior High

In junior high cross country, the Knoxville boys were 3rd in their 3-team meet on Saturday. Princeville was first and Orion was 2nd. Levin Pearson was the top finisher for Knoxville. He placed 17th out of 35 runners. On the girl’s side, Knoxville took 2nd, with Princeville winning and Orion in third place. Emmalyn Hensley and Emily King placed 1st and 2nd, respectively, to lead the Blue Bullets.
