Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Aug 26, 2020

Golf

The United High School boys and girls golf teams hosted Elmwood at Gibson Woods Golf Course yesterday afternoon. The two schools split the dual matches, with the United boys winning 184-193 to go to (5-0) on the season. Drew Brown and Caleb Copeland led United with 44’s. Kittner McVey shot a 46 and Ian McVey carded a 50 for the Red Storm scoring. Elmwood’s Charlie Week was the meet medalist with a 43. On the girls side, it was visiting Elmwood over United 200-215. Haley Marshall led United with a 48. Former Red Storm golfer and now a student at Elmwood, Claire Carnes, led all golfers with a 44.

The Knoxville Blue Bullet boys golf team took part in a 3-school meet at Oak Run Golf Course. The Blue Bullets defeated Stark County 173-209. Farmington did not have enough golfers to compete as a team. Knoxville’s Justin Betz was the meet medalist with a 41. He was joined in the scoring column by Titus Cramer and David Hise with a pair of 43’s. Damien Jones had a 46 as well for the Blue Bullets.

The Galesburg Silver Streak girls golfers lost to Moline 213-237 on the Maroon’s home course of Oakwood Country Club. Becca Watson led Galesburg with a 52. Other scoring golfers for Galesburg included Gracey Miyler with a 61 and Abby Endthoff and Kendra Coon with 62’s.
The Mercer County girls golf team remained undefeated with a 187-248 victory over Sherrard. Callie Siering led Mer Co with a 45. Kristina Snowdon and Mia Hillyer were right behind Siering with a 46.

Junior High

The United Red Storm junior high baseball team improved to (5-0) last night with a 12-2 win over Abingdon-Avon in Avon. The top four hitters in the United lineup go 8-for-15, led by Elliott Copeland’s 3-for-4, 2 rbi night. Tanner Rogers was 2-for-4 with 3 runs driven in and a triple. Ian Leffler had a pair of rbis as well for United. Also getting multiple hits was Zeke Clark. Elliott Copeland and Lance Baker combined to only allow A-Town five hits in the game. Copeland gets the official pitching win, going the initial four innings, giving up one earned run with four strikeouts.
