Local Junior High and High School Sports Update for Aug 20, 2020

Golf

The West Central Heat girls golf team also went (2-0) over Mid County and Ananwan/Wethersfield at Oak Run Golf Course. The Heat scored 202, with Mid County garnering a 227 and Annawan/Wethersfield a 246. No individuals scores could be found. The Heat boys golf team shot a team score of 257, with Annawan/Wethersfield carding 181 and Mid County shooting a 187. No individual scores from the boys side were given as well.

The Ridgewood boys golf team went (2-0) over Kewanee and Peru St. Bede yesterday at Baker Park in Kewanee. The Spartans shot a team score of 165, with Kewanee shooting a 173 and St. Bede carding a 178. Tom Bumann led all golfers with a 36 for Ridgewood.

Tennis

The Macomb Lady Bomber tennis team shutout Limestone 5-0 and defeated Pontiac 4-1 in their first action of the season last night in Bartonville. Getting tow singles wins for Macomb was Madeline MacGregor and Tali Stone. Getting doubles victories for the Bombers was Kiley Daniels and Kyle Jacques at #1 doubles and Kathleen LaPrad and Olivia Duncan at #3 doubles. Earning a doubles win at #2 was the team of Anna Vana and Sanjana Babu.

Junior High

The United Red Storm junior high baseball team is now (3-0) after beating Stark County 11-3 in Alexis. The Red Storm scored at least one run in every inning but one. The offensive hero for United was Caleb Copeland. He goes 4-for-4 with a double and two rbis. Aiden Martin and Ian Leffler go 2-for-4, with Martin getting three rbis. Leffler and Nolan Jenks knocked in a pair of runs for the Red Storm as well. Tanner Rogers gets the pitching win, going three innings, giving up two hits, two earned runs and eight strikeouts. Three United pitchers combined to hold Stark County to three total hits.

The West Central Heat junior high girls softball team earned the first win in school history yesterday with a 9-1 win over Mercer County in Stronghurst. Lauren Winters had a pair of hits for West Central, who garnered eight total hits in the game. Winters also led all hitters with three rbis. Four West Central pitchers combined to hold Mer Co to just two hits. Addison Seitz gets the official win in the circle. In her three innings of work, she held the Golden Eagles hit-less. She recorded seven strikeouts, while only giving up one base on balls.
