Monmouth College’s Women’s and Men’s Fall Golf Season Scrubbed by League

MONMOUTH, IL – The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC), of which Monmouth College participates in men’s and women’s golf, announced Friday afternoon the President’s Council voted to postpone all fall sport athletic contests, competitions, scrimmages and other shared athletic activities with outside competition of any classification or nature.

The move, which came after receiving and reviewing the latest information and documents from the NCAA concerning the safe return to sport for the fall 2020 season, will allow teams to hold team workouts, weight training, practices, sport specific athletic activities, scrimmages and leadership development within their own respective campus environment.

The Council is exploring the possibility of moving the women’s golf championship, normally held in the fall, to the spring season of 2021. A decision on the possible move will be made at a later date as more information becomes available.

The President’s Council felt the SLIAC had made every reasonable effort to have competitions this fall, but under the recently received new guidelines from the NCAA, the Council came to the decision it was in the best interest of the safety of the student-athletes, coaches, athletic personnel and campus in general, that all competition on each SLIAC campus against outside competitors be postponed for fall 2020 intercollegiate sports teams.
