Raymond E. Vanskike, 79, of Monmouth, IL passed away at 5:00 am, Saturday, August 8, 2020 at his home.
Raymond was born February 7, 1941 in Labell, MO, the son of Everett Western and Oleda Clair (Newberry) Vanskike. He was raised and educated in the public Schools in Labell, MO.
Raymond served with the United States Army from 1959-1962 earning the rank of Sargent 2nd class.
Raymond married Elaine Rapp in Bishop Hill, IL on November 23, 1963 and she survives.
When he returned from the Army, Raymond first worked on local farms and worked at Warfield Lumber Yard. He later owned and operated Vanskike’s Floor Coving Installation in Monmouth for over 30 years.
He enjoyed four wheeling, fishing, tinkering in his garage, and watching stock car races. He loved spending time with his grandkids and great grandkids.
Survivors include his wife; 4 children, Kay (Mike) Sage of Monmouth, IL Ronnie Vanskike of Monmouth, IL, Leslie Kelso of Galesburg, IL, Brenda Vanskike of Monmouth, IL; 9 grandchildren, Eric Sage, Melissa Sage Kurts, Corey Vanskike, Megan Greene, Logan Vanskike, Amanda Henry, Hillary Kelso, Abigail Kelso and Megan Kelso; 2 step grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; 1 brother, Carroll Vanskike of Houston, TX; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and 4 brothers, J.T. Vanskike, George, Vanskike, Bill Vanskike and Jerry Vanskike.
Gathering of Family and Friends will be from 5:00-7:00 pm Thursday, August 13, 2020 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL. Cremation has been accorded. Memorials may be given to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Due to the COVID-19 restrictions and requirements, all attendees are requested to wear a mask and maintain social distancing.
