Rex M. Lufkin, Sr., 82, of East Galesburg, died Tuesday, August 25, 2020 at his residence.

He was born September 13, 1937 in East Galesburg, the son of Clifford and Bernice (Traynor) Lufkin.  He married Ruth Ann Carr on January 26, 1957 in East Galesburg.  She preceded him in death on December 25, 1998.  Their marriage blessed them with children, Rex Lufkin, Jr., East Galesburg; Cindy (Bob) Owen, Gilson, Mary Thompson, East Galesburg, and Susan (Darrell) Rice, East Galesburg; grandchildren, Emily Owen, Jeremy Thompson, Ashley Curry and Samantha Rice; and 9 great-grandchildren.  Rex is also survived by brothers, Jerry (Gwen) Lufkin, Buckeye, AZ and Terry (Joyce) Lufkin, San Angelo, TX; and a sister, Imogene Crow, Knoxville.  Rex was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, grandson, Shawn Thompson, brothers, Norman and Ted, and sisters, Joan and Alberta.

Rex was a switchman and brakeman for BNSF Railroad for 41 years, retiring on March 31, 1999.  He dedicated his life to his work and loved his family.  He also enjoyed drives in the country.

Cremation has been accorded.  Private graveside services will be held at Knoxville Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to OSF Hospice or to the donor’s choice.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg.
