In an effort to increase self-response rates in rural communities across the nation, the U.S. Census Bureau has designated August 2-8 as a Rural Week of Action. To support this work, and to raise awareness throughout Illinois, Forefront is hosting a social media “thunderclap” Friday (Aug. 7), from 10am-11:30am. The point is to get as many people “talking” about the Census as possible during the designated time to help ensure Illinoisans everywhere are counted in the 2020 Census. Jan Helms with the City of Monmouth says could lose a lot of money…
“The city of Monmouth could lose $1800 per person that we don’t count. So it’s very, very important that we get everybody counted properly to where they live on April 1, 2020.”
In the wake of COVID-19, rural communities are at even greater risk of being under counted than ever before. That means less money for things like Medicare (Part B), rural water and waste disposal systems, cooperative extension services, rural business enterprise grants, education, SNAP benefits, housing preservation grants, and more.
The Census determines funding for critical services like roads, schools, housing, food stamps, and agriculture. Make sure rural Illinois gets its fair share. Complete the census online today at 2020CENSUS.GOV
