The City of Monmouth says the Love’s Travel Stop location on Highway 67 is a prime development opportunity for potential general merchandise expansion. Mayor Rod Davies says they are beginning talks with a developer:
“We have also reached out to a former developer that had looked at Monmouth a couple of years ago. Now that we have a really great site where we have extended all of our infrastructure out at the Love’s Travel Stop, kind of the development part out there is you will. We are talking with them about possible general merchandise and trying to bring in some activity there. They are preliminary discussions, but that is the way it starts. Now that we have the water and sewer there and the road improvements, it is prime for development,” Mayor Davies explains.
Meanwhile, the location known as the “old Coconuts building” is undergoing rehabilitation for the development of professional office space in the near future. Elsewhere, the old Howard Medical Glove Factory has seen renewed interest in that property according to City Administrator Lew Steinbrecher. Interest in the vacant “Term City” building on South Main Street is also underway as a potential retail site.
