Despite the numerous temporary shutdowns related to the coronavirus, all programs at Jamison Community Center are now operating reports Director Nancy Mowen, including the Back to School Stars Program, shopping at the Thrift Store, and donations:
“We knew that many families were going to be doing remote learning this year, so we sat down as a staff and thought about all the little things that children needed to be able to do their homework successfully. We had quite a long list and added some things that maybe we haven’t had in the past. The backpacks were very full. We are now accepting donations. Donation days are Mondays and Thursdays from 10 am to 3 pm. We are asking that people pull around to the back of the building, wear a mask, and put their donations in a shed. Shopping days are Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10 am to 2 pm. Again masks are required. We have a limited number of people, so then we just lock the door and people wait until someone comes out,” Mowen informs.
This past summer over 9,000 meals were provided to area children and the senior nutrition meals at Jamieson have grown by 65% during the pandemic.
