City of Macomb Extends Orders to Mitigate Spread of COVID-19

Macomb Mayor Michael Inman extended two Temporary Orders, to help mitigate the spread of COVID19, which were set to expire on September 25, 2020. One order applies to Bars and Restaurants; restricting the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages to seated patrons only. Package liquor sales are unaffected by the order.

The other order limits the size of gathers in residential areas, to no more than (12) people, in the area around the campus of Western Illinois University

“We are grateful for the community’s continued cooperation and compliance”, said Mayor Inman. “We are seeing good results. I continue to be aware of the effect the pandemic has had, and continues to have, on our entire business community. I also realize our students come here not only for a great education, but they want and need social interaction. That interaction should be in as safe environment as possible”, Inman added.

Inman stated the decision to extend the orders was based on a continued increase in the positive COVID19 case count, and in consultation with the Administration at Western Illinois University, the McDonough County Health Department, McDonough District Hospital and the McDonough County ESDA Coordinator.

“In speaking with our community health partners, we are seeing that the Orders are beginning to have a flattening effect on our COVID 19 positivity rating and case count, and that’s good news” Mayor Inman concluded.

With the traditional Flu season upon us, Inman also encouraged everyone to get vaccinated for the Flu.

The temporary orders will expire on October 9, 2020 and can be found on the Downtown Macomb website.
