Like many other communities across the country, the City of Macomb has faced challenges with the coronavirus. New mitigation strategies have been put in place to slow the spread reports Mayor Mike Inman:
“After consulting with administration at Western Illinois University, the McDonough County Health Department, the hospital, and the Emergency Services and Disaster Agency Director, we issued an emergency order restricting in our bars and restaurants that serve alcohol to limiting them to only serving patrons that are seated, essentially ensuring that some social distancing will occur. As many as ten unrelated people to a table, spread six feet apart, and that will put some further limitations on the total number of people that could be in a restaurant or bar. The other order that we issued was we identified an area adjacent to the residential areas around the WIU campus where there is a high student population and we issued an order that restricts the number of folks that can attend parties at those locations to twelve, including the host,” Mayor Inman explains.
Despite being in a pandemic, Mayor Inman states the economic development in Macomb has been “positively surprising” on the East side of their community.
McDonough County changes since Thursday, 9/03/20:
- 77 new positive confirmed cases: 41 females and 36 males
- 17 in their 10s
- 52 in their 20s
- 3 in their 30s
- 1 in their 40s
- 2 in their 50s
- 1 in their 70s
- 1 in their 90s
- 24 newly recovered cases
Contact tracing investigation is being conducted to follow up with close contacts and advise of potential exposure and steps they will need to take to monitor their health as well as any quarantine instructions. By tracing contacts the individual had prior to the diagnosis, risk of additional transmission is reduced.
