Donald L. Schisler, 76, of Galesburg, died unexpectedly at 7:42 a.m. Sunday, September 6, 2020, in the emergency room of OSF St. Mary Medical Center.

He was born October 4, 1943, in Macomb, the son of Kenneth Dwight and Minnie Pauline (Hunt) Schisler.  He married Bonnie Lou (Lowe) Stout on March 15, 1973, in Galesburg.  She preceded him in death on December 22, 2017 after nearly 45 years of marriage.

He is survived by two daughters, Ronda Helms of Abingdon and Tammy Schisler of Galesburg; five step children, Kevin (Jeanne) Stout, Heath (Cindy) Stout, and Dawn Quinn, all of Galesburg, Jolene (Steve) Woodruff of Missouri, and Carla (Bob) Fuller of Champaign; many grandchildren, great grandchildren; and great-great grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth W. Schisler of Oscoda, Michigan; a sister, Linda K. (Peter) Bergmann of Galesburg; and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Bob and Danny Schisler; a sister, Eileen Foutch; two step brothers; and four step sisters.

Don was a conductor for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad for 37 years.  Don was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Cubs fan.  He also enjoyed golfing, reading, bowling, and fishing with his grandchildren.  

After graduating from Abingdon High School, Don served in the United States Air Force from 1962 to 1966.  He was a member and current commander of the Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post 381 in Abingdon.  He had also served on the honor guard.Cremation will be accorded.  Private family graveside service, with military honors, will be Monday, September 14, 2020 in the Rock Island National Cemetery on Arsenal Island.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Abingdon American Legion Honor Guard.  Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel is handling arrangements for the family.  Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com
