Hend. Co. State’s Attorney Hathaway Concerned of Mental Health in Justice System

Share

Like Warren County, the pandemic has placed a strain on court proceedings in Henderson County with numerous cases being pushed back. One challenge that continues to be a factor is mental health within the criminal justice system. Henderson County State’s Attorney Colby Hathaway has more:

“It is really tough in this area. There is not a whole lot of options that are nearby as far as mental health services. We find a lot of people who go through the justice system have some underlying mental health issues and a lot of times they turn to illegal drugs to somewhat self-medicate and that just compounds the problem,” informs Hathaway.

With the Department of Corrections currently not taking inmates, the 15 capacity jail in Henderson County is forced to hold prisoners awaiting transfer.
