Illinois State Police (ISP) District Chicago arrested Adam Hollingsworth for Reckless Conduct, Disobeying a Police Officer, Criminal Trespass to State Supported Property, and Darron Luster for Obstructing and Resisting Arrest.
On Sept. 21, 2020, ISP District Chicago received numerous calls of a subject riding a horse on Interstate 94 southbound local lanes at 35th Street. Officers arrived on Interstate 94 southbound at 71st Street and observed a subject later identified as Adam Hollingsworth, 33-year-old male of Chicago, IL, riding a horse surrounded by multiple motorcycles and vehicles in the local lanes. Officers asked the subjects to exit the Interstate multiple times and Hollingsworth refused. Due to the safety of the subjects involved, motoring public, and the horse, Officers ordered the protesters off the Interstate. Officers safely escorted the subjects and horse off the Interstate at 95th Street. Hollingsworth was ordered off the horse and placed under arrest for Reckless Conduct, Disobeying a Police Officer, and Criminal Trespass to State-Supported Property without incident. Hollingsworth was transported to Chicago Police Department District 5 for processing.
After Hollingsworth was placed under arrest, Troopers were attempting to safely secure the horse and observed several injuries on the horse. The horse was bleeding from the left hoof, the right hoof was injured, and the right side of the horse’s body had sores from the saddle.
At this time, another subject attempted to forcefully gain control of the horse. The subject was later identified as Darron Luster, 55-year-old male of Chicago, IL. Luster was asked multiple times by Officers to release the horse. Luster refused to release the horse and was placed under arrest for Obstructing and Resisting Arrest. Luster resisted arrest and dropped himself to the ground and requested an ambulance.
Officers requested an ambulance to evaluate Luster. Luster refused medical attention on scene and stated he only would go inside the squad car, not ambulance. Luster was then placed into the squad car without incident and transported to Chicago Police Department District 5 for processing.
On Sept. 9, 2020, ISP District Chicago Command along with Chicago Police Department Command met with Adam Hollingsworth about a protest he intended on having on the Dan Ryan Expressway. Hollingsworth’s request was denied and he was told he would not be allowed on the Dan Ryan Expressway because it is dangerous and illegal for pedestrians to access the expressway in that manner.
At this time, the horse is temporarily quartered with Animal Care and Control. Animal Care and Control Officials are performing an intake and assessment of the horse and documenting injuries.
Additional charges are pending due to the ongoing investigation.
The public is reminded that all persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
