Lydia Mitchell is a junior on the women’s soccer team and track and field team. She is from Maryville, Missouri where she attended Maryville High School. Lydia has appeared in 43 games in her career and has scored 20 goals and added 11 assists. She is a student senator and a trustee’s representative.
How has your experience with your sport changed over time?
Each year I have gotten better, faster, and stronger. I’ve also learned so much from our coaching staff and I feel like I have come to love my sport even more. Especially this year I miss having practice every day.
Why did you choose Knox?
I chose Knox because on my visit everyone was so welcoming and kind to me. I felt as though I was really valued as a recruit and potential member of the team.
What do you love about Knox?
I love that at Knox there is something for everyone. Students, faculty, and staff are always eager to help.
If you could travel/live anywhere in the world where would it be?
If I could travel anywhere in the world it would be India or South Africa. Some of my friends live in these locations and it would be amazing to see what their home is like and to be able to show them my home (the PNW).
What has changed most from being a high school student to being a college student?
The biggest change other than the course load would be the freedom I have to manage my time. I am able to study, practice, and work as much as I want and I can do these things with my friends which is an added bonus.
What do you like most about Galesburg/Galesburg Community?
I like Galesburg’s downtown area which is a lot of fun to walk around and I like Galesburg’s proximity to Peoria and Chicago.
What do you enjoy most about Division 3?
I love that I can be a part of an exceptional sports program and also focus on my studies, family, and friends. I also love the connection all athletes have with athletics administration and coaches. They are always there to help.
What is your favorite movie?
My favorite movie is Moulin Rouge!
What is your favorite band/artist?
My two favorite bands/artists are Ciara and Maroon 5.
What is one tip you would give an incoming FY?
One tip I would give an incoming FY is to expect the unexpected. Especially during this pandemic we have no idea what classes, practices, or friendships will look like and it is not going to be easy. Just remember you are not alone!
