Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Sept. 12, 2020

Swimming and Diving

The Monmouth-Roseville girls swimming and diving team was at Macomb High School on Saturday for a 3-team meet against the host Bombers and Dunlap. Monmouth-Roseville had several top-2 finishes. Cally Tate had three of those. She placed 1st in the 50 and 100 yard backstroke events and added a 2nd place in the 100 butterfly. Addie Smith had three runner up times in the 50 breaststroke, 200 IM and 100 backstroke races. Caitlyn Stewart touched the wall first in the 100 yard breaststroke and was 2nd in the 500 yard freestyle. Macomb’s Lauren Carson was 1st in the 50 yard freestyle and her teammate Gracie Jones was 2nd in the 100 yard freestyle race.

The Galesburg Silver Streak girls swimming and diving team traveled to United Township High School for a dual meet on Saturday. The Streaks get a 108-74 victory over the Panthers. Getting multiple wins for Galesburg was Olivia Owen in the 50 yard breaststroke and 100 yard butterfly races. Kylie Tapper was a double winner as well, claiming the 50 butterfly and 100 yard freestyle. Tori Robinson also touched the wall first twice, getting wins in the 100 breaststroke and 500 freestyle events. Molly Pettit won the 100 backstroke and Ari Bailey had the best 1 meter dive of the day for Galesburg.

Junior High

The United Jr. High baseball team is now (8-1) after getting a 3-0 win over Abingdon-Avon on Friday. Tanner Rogers and Lance Baker teamed up for a 2-hitter for United. Rogers gets the pitching win and Baker gets the save. Rogers totaled 11 strikeouts in his 4.2 innings of work on the mound.
