Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Sept. 14, 2020

Golf

Monmouth-Roseville High School hosted their annual boys golf invitational yesterday at Gibson Woods Golf Course in Monmouth. The normal field of teams was cut in half due to the Return to Play guidelines. Eleven schools teed off early yesterday afternoon. No surprise, Macomb won the team title shooting a score of an even 300. They also had the top two individual golfers in the tournament, as well. Seniors Jack Lockard and Braeden Duncan placed first and second, respectively. Lockard shot a 1-over par, 72, with Duncan carding a 2-over 73. The United Red Storm placed 8th as a team with a team score of 373. Drew Brown was the low scorer for United with an 18-hole total of 81. Knoxville was 10th with a team score of 396 and were led by Titus Cramer’s 95. The host Monmouth-Roseville Titans were 11th at 398 and had senior Noah Clark lead the way with a 94.

The United Red Storm girls golf team lost 206-221 to Mercer County at Hawthorne Ridge in Aledo. Paige McKeown tied with Mer Co’s Callie Siering for meet medalist honors with 50. Haley Marshall and Addy Trego were also in the 50’s for United with a 53 and 54, respectively.

The Macomb Bomber girls defeated both Quincy Notre Dame and Bushnell-Prairie City at Gold Hills in Macomb. Laine Torrance was the meet medalist with a score of 37 for Macomb. BPC was led by Anna Curley’s 69.

The Galesburg boys beat Rock Island 168-192 at Bunker Links in Galesburg. Galesburg’s Jason Runbom was the meet medalist with a 38.

The Knoxville Blue Bullet girls went (0-2) against Geneseo and Galesburg at Geneseo Country Club. The Blue Bullets shot a team score of 256, led by Kaci Luptak’s 47. She tied for meet medalist honors. Galesburg was (1-1) for the day losing to Geneseo’s score of 194. Galesburg’s low scorer was Becca Watson’s 49.

Tennis

Galesburg beat Rock Island 3-2 in Rock Island. Rock Island won both singles matches but Galesburg came back to get victories in all three doubles matchups. Camryn Anderson and Gwendolyn Allison teamed up for a win at #1 doubles. Camellia and Juniper Schwartzman were victorious at #2 doubles and Kaidence Wilson and Sariah Simmons won at #3 doubles.

Junior High

The West Central Heat junior high softball team is now (2-1) after getting a 15-5 road win over ROWVA. Addison Seitz and Miley Stimpson each had a pair of hits for the Heat. Seitz had a double, triple and three rbis. Also getting multiple rbis with two apiece were Lauren Winters, Payton Eisniccher and Lainey Klossing.

Cubs Open Regular Season Against Rangers

The 2024 MLB season is finally here. The Chicago Cubs visit the world champion Texas Rangers for Opening Day at Globe Life Field tonight. The Northsiders are looking to build
