Golf
The Macomb Bomber High School girls golf team edged out Geneseo and also beat Ottawa on Saturday at the Geneseo Country Club. Shooting a team total of 182, the Bombers beat the hosts by one stroke and Ottawa by 34. Macomb’s Laine Torrance was the meet medalist with a 38. Lily Vardaman shot a 43 and Ellen Meixner carded a 47 also for Macomb.
Swimming and Diving
The Galesburg Silver Streak girls swimming and diving team hosted Richwoods at Mustain Pool on the GHS campus on Saturday. The visitors squeaked out a 96-90 win over the Streaks. Getting a win for Galesburg was Allie Warren in the 200 IM. Getting two victories apiece for the Silver Streaks were Tori Robinson in the 200 and 500 yard freestyle races and Sophie Lotz in the 50 free and 100 breaststroke.
Junior High
The United and ICS junior high baseball teams and the West Central junior high softball team all won regional championships on their home fields on Saturday. The most exciting of which came in Alexis. It took eight innings for the United Red Storm boys baseball squad to win their regional plaque. The Red Storm walked-off a 4-3 win over Ridgewood. It looked like United was going to run away with the contest early on. The Red Storm put up three, first inning tallies but then didn’t score again until the bottom of the eighth. The big hit in the first frame for United was Kelton Ryan’s two-out, two-run single bringing home Ian Leffler and Tanner Rogers. The game settled into a pitcher’s battle for the next seven innings until Elliott Copeland sent the United fans into a frenzy in the eighth. Copeland’s line-drive single brought home Zeke Clark from 3rd base with the winning run. Clark reached base via a 2-out walk and then proceeded to go to 2nd and 3rd on wild pitches. Rogers and Aiden Martin each had two of the eight total hits for United. Leffler and Rogers combined on the win on the mound for the Red Storm. Rogers gets the official win, going the final three innings, giving up only one hit and recording five strikeouts. United ends the season at (12-1).
The ICS Trojan baseball team shut out the ROWVA Tigers at the Field of Dreams in Monmouth on Saturday. The Trojans scored runs in the first three innings to lead 4-0 after three. David Simmons, Max Ferguson and Clay Casteel all combined for the 2-hitter, pitching-wise for ICS. Offensively, Andrew Way had two of the nine ICS hits. Two of Way’s hits were triples. Steven Gibbs also had a triple for the Trojans, who end the season at (5-4).
The West Central Heat softball girls also jumped out to an early lead and went on to defeat Southeastern, 5-1 in Stronghurst. The Heat took a 3-0 lead after just two innings. Addison Seitz started the scoring in the bottom of first with an inside-the-park home run. Miley Stimpson and Ashley Meyer had rbi doubles later in the game. West Central made the most of their seven hits, with five of them going for extra bases. Seitz and Meyer each had two hits and an rbi for West Central. Addison Seitz goes the distance in the circle for West Central, going all seven innings, giving up four hits and one earned run. She recorded 15 strikeouts, with only one walk. In the two regional games, Seitz struck out a total of 32 strikeouts in 14 innings. The Heat end their shortened 2020 season at (4-2).
