Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Sept. 29, 2020

Cross Country

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan boys and girls cross country teams hosted Orion at Monmouth Park on Tuesday. The Titan boys beat the Chargers 25-31 and the Titan girls lost 18-40. Monmouth-Roseville’s Rafael Tomas Francisco won the boy’s race with Joe Rivera Ruiz coming in 3rd and Jekxel Rivera Ruiz coming in 4th. They were joined by teammate Steven Meza in 6th. The Titan girls were led by Dayanna Mora Ortiz and Rileigh Ewing in 4th and 6th, respectively.

The Prairieland Conference held its conference championship meet at Lake Storey in Galesburg. Elmwood is the boy’s team champ. Neither Knoxville, Abingdon-Avon nor BPC had enough runners to compete for the team title. Knoxville was led by Dawson Hensley’s 13th place finish. BPC’s Devin Suggitt was 16th and Abingdon-Avon’s Tyler Condreay was 22nd. On the girl’s side, Elmwood was also the team champ. Knoxville’s Kailee Stearns and Kynlee Stearns were 6th and 7th, respectively. Abingdon-Avon’s Natalee Kern was 24th and BPC was led by Avery Gullidge was 30th.
The Galesburg Silver Streak boys and girls were in Geneseo for a dual cross country meet. Geneseo won both the boy’s and girl’s team competition. Galesburg’s Briana Admire was 6th for Galesburg, as Geneseo had the top 12 of 13 runners. Galesburg’s Ben Vasquez was the top Silver Streak boy’s runner in 3rd.

Golf

The United Red Storm girls golf team defeated Sherrard 214-229 at Gibson Woods Golf Course in Monmouth. United’s Paige McKeown was the meet medalist with a 47. Addy Trego carded a 53 for United, as well. Joining those two was Haley Marshall’s with a 56 and Josie McElwee with a 58.

The Monmouth-Roseville boys golf team hosted a four-school meet at Gibson Woods Golf Course yesterday. The Titans went (2-1) for the day, carding a team score of 181. Ridgewood edged out Monmouth-Roseville with a 177. Kewanee had a team total of 195 and BPC’s garnered a team score of 213. Thomas Bumann from Ridgewood was the meet medalist with a 9-hole score of 36. Monmouth-Roseville’s scoring quartet included DJ Reading’s 38, Jack Thompson’s 44, John Jusczcyk’s 38 and Noah Clark’s 51. BPC’s Cooper Allaman’s 48 led the Spartans.

The Macomb Bomber girls golf team beat Rockridge 184-199 at Gold Hills Golf Course in Macomb. Lily Vardaman was the meet medalist, leading the Macomb scoring quartet with a 43. It was Vardaman’s 6th medalist honors of the season. Also scoring for Macomb was Laine Torrance and Trinity Christensen with a pair of 46’s and Ellen Meixner with a 49.

Swimming and Diving

Bloomington knocked off the Macomb High School girls swim team 117-66. Picking up a win for Macomb was Lauren Carson in the 200 yard freestyle race.

Junior High

Fresh off a regional championship on Saturday, the ICS Trojan junior high improved their overall record to (6-4) with a 12-6 win over a solid Annawan/Wethersfield ball club last night. Nick Huston and Elijah Noel each had three hits and Andrew Way had a pair of hits for ICS, as well. One of Noel’s hits was towering out-of-the-park home run. Max Ferguson had a double and five rbis for the Trojans.
