Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Sept. 9, 2020

Golf

The Macomb Bomber girls golf team beat Quincy Notre Dame 181-196 on senior night at Gold Hills Golf Club. Laine Torrance was the meet medalist with a 42 for the Lady Bombers. Also in the scoring quartet for Macomb was Ellen Meixner with a 45, Trinity Christensen with a 46 and Lily Vardaman with a 48. BPC had two golfers there as well and were led by Hannah Eden’s 79.

The Galesburg Silver Streak boys golf team tied for 2nd place with Peoria Notre Dame at 173 in a 3-team meet at Kellogg Golf Course in Peoria. Both squads were just five stroke behind meet winner, Limestone. Galesburg’s Jason Runbom was the meet medalist with a score of 38. He was joined in the scoring column by Ben Templeton with a 39, Carson Hopping with a 46 and John Knapp’s 50.

The Knoxville Blue Bullet boys and girls golf teams took on Mid County at Oak Run Golf Course. The Knoxville girls lost by 20 strokes to the Cougars, 235-255. The Blue Bullets’ Kaci Luptak was the meet’s low scorer with a 51. Ciara Shreeves carded a 64 for Knoxville as well. Faith Erlacher was the lowest Cougar with a 53. The Knoxville boys salvaged a split on the night, getting a 175-182 victory. Knoxville’s Titus Cramer tied with Mid County’s Jaxson Willer for meet medalist honors with 41’s. David Hise and Tanner Maulden shot 45’s for the Blue Bullets. They were joined by Damian Jones’ 48.

Cross Country

The United Red Storm boys and girls cross country teams traveled to Stark County High School for a dual meet against the Rebels. The Red Storm had the top finishers on the boys and girls divisions. Bridget Brokaw cross the finish line first on the girl’s side. Makaela Robinson was 4th for the Red Storm, as well. United’s Zair Velazquez won the boy’s race. His teammate, Hunter Hall was 4th.

The Abingdon-Avon, Knoxville and Bushnell-Prairie City boys and girls cross country teams joined Farmington, Peoria Heights and Havana yesterday for a 6-team meet at Farmington High School. Knoxville won the girls team title with Havana winning the boys side. Individually, Knoxville’s Dawson Hensley was 2nd, with Isaac Nolan placing 7th. Bushnell Prairie-City’s Devin Suggitt was 3rd. A-town’s Tyler Condrea was 6th to lead the Tornado contingent. Havana’s Adam Bohm was the boy’s winner. Knoxville’s Byrn Bahnks and Mackenzie Rader went 1-2 in the girl’s race. Actually, Knoxville had 5 of the top 6 times. Bushnell Prairie City was led by Josie Walters in 24th. A-Town had no girls participating.

Tennis

The Macomb Bomber girls tennis team lost a road match to Pekin 6-3. Getting wins for Macomb were Olivia Duncan and Anna Powell in singles matches and Sanjana Babu and Powell in a doubles match.

Junior High

In junior high golf, several boys from ICS participated in the IESA Sectional tournament at Quail Meadows in East Peoria yesterday. Andrew Way, an ICS 7th grader, was the lowest Trojan with a 102. That score was good enough for 20th place overall. Eighth grader Max Ferguson carded a 110 for 26th and 7th grader Nick Huston shot a 123 for 46th place. Knoxville Blue Bullet 8th grade girls golfer Addison Orr took 3rd place with a score of 90 at Madison Golf Course in Peoria in the sectional tournament. Macomb’s Sophie Wilson was 12th, carding a score of 111. Cora Johnson from Churchill Jr. High in Galesburg was 6th with a 99. The Macomb boys junior high golfers had their sectional meet weathered out yesterday in Jacksonville. They teed off this morning at The Links in Jacksonville.

The United Red Storm baseball team suffered their first loss of the season. The Red Storm fall to (7-1) after falling to Annawan/Wethersfield 6-4. A 4-run bottom of the 6th by A/W broke a 2-2 tie. United was held to two hits in the game. Elliott Copeland and Ian Leffler picked up those hits, with Leffler’s being a rbi double.

The West Central Heat junior high baseball team lost to LaHarpe 13-1 in four innings. Hayden Eisnnicher and Cooper Gibb had the lone hits for the Heat.
