The Galesburg Police Department would like to congratulate Officer Maggie Semington for being chosen as the Galesburg Area Crime Stoppers Officer of the Year for 2019.  Officer Semington is a 15 year veteran of the Galesburg Police Department.  Officer Semington leads the department in proactive patrol activities.

Officer Semington was nominated for her response to a call of a suicidal subject on the I-74 bridge.  The subject was seated on the ledge of the bridge and would not come off.  The subject continued to move closer to the edge.  Officer Semington risked her own safety to wrap her arms around the subject and pull them off the ledge.  Her heroic actions not only saved this person’s life, but prevented injury to the drivers on the instate below.

“Officer Semington is a hard working and committed officer, dedicated to serving the Galesburg community,” stated Chief Russ Idle.
