Phyllis Marie Waller, 88, of Galesburg, died peacefully Sunday, August 30, 2020 at home with her family by her side.
Phyllis was born June 27, 1932 in Lake Crystal, MN the daughter of Clarence and Ersa (Morrow) McMahill. Phyllis married John Carl Waller on December 14, 1952 in Little Falls, MN. He preceded her in death on May 16, 1993. Phyllis is survived by two daughters, Sherry Mc Coy of Palatine and Bonnie Davis of Galesburg; three grandchildren, Jessica (Davis) Custer, Katherine (Jacob Lawrence) Davis, and Timothy Davis; seven great grandchildren, Tiana Jenkins, Jacob Asbury, Trent Davis, Hannah, Lexie, and Nathan Custer, and Arius Lawrence; and one great great granddaughter, Delilah Davis. Along with her parents and husband, Phyllis was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Jody Lyn Waller; one son, Richard Dean Waller on July 24, 2013; one brother, Edgar McMahill; one granddaughter, Carrie Camielle Waller; and a son in law, Richard E. Davis, Jr.
While living in Little Falls, MN, Phyllis worked for several years for Munsingwear. After moving to Galesburg, she drove the Handi-Van for the city of Galesburg. Phyllis was an accomplished bowler and enjoyed bowling for many years. Phyllis was also an accomplished trap shooter winning more than one competition. She enjoyed her years growing up on the farm in Minnesota, never leaving her love of the outdoors behind, and enjoyed tending to her yard and garden. She was a member of the Western Illinois Antique Auto Club as well as the West Central Illinois Doll Club. Phyllis enjoyed going to backyard sales, auctions, and flea markets.
Public visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, some family will be present. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Galesburg. Memorials may be made in Phyllis’ memory to the Knox County Humane Society or to the FISH Food Pantry.
