MACOMB, Ill. – Western Illinois Athletics welcomed Mark Izquierdo to its staff as the Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance, the department announced Tuesday (Sept. 1).
Izquierdo joins the Leathernecks after a stint with the University of Evansville, where he served as Director of Compliance and Student-Athlete Services for two years.
“I am so excited to officially be a Leatherneck,” he said. “I had the opportunity to meet some of the great people here at WIU when I worked at The Summit League, and I’m looking forward to getting started with this group of coaches, student-athletes, and staff, and do my part to ensure we’re winning both on and off the field.”
“We are excited to have Mark join our team here at Western Illinois,” said Director of Athletics Danielle Surprenant. “Mark brings a great deal of compliance experience from time spent in a conference office and a campus setting. We look forward to working with Mark as he shares his expertise, enthusiasm, and leadership with our Leatherneck family.”
While at Evansville, Izquierdo had a hand in several areas, including the Purple Aces’ educational programs, student-athlete exit process, eligibility center, National Letter of Intent (NLI) program, and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
No stranger to Western or its home league, he was promoted to Acting Director of Compliance in The Summit League at the end of a yearlong stay. There, he operated the compliance program, managed all violation reports and waiver requests, and controlled the entire NLI process for all nine of the league’s institutions.
Izquierdo graduated cum laude from DePaul University in June 2016 with a Bachelor of Science in Business: Sport Management. The Lemont, Ill., native obtained a Master’s of Arts in Sport Administration at Northwestern University in September 2019. He also worked as an athletics compliance intern and ticket office intern for Northwestern and DePaul, respectively.
