Whitford Leads Sandburg Women’s Golf in Season Opener

Galesburg, IL – The Carl Sandburg College women’s golf team held its first competition of the season Saturday, hosting St. Ambrose and Kishwaukee at Lake Bracken Country Club.

Sophomore Elizabeth Whitford (Dahinda, Ill./Galva) led the Chargers with a 91 as second finished second to St. Ambrose. The Bees totaled a 356 while Sandburg posted a 392 team score.

Sophomore Rylee Liles (Hennepin, Ill./Putnam County) had a 97 for the Chargers, and Kelli Kennedy (Henry, Ill./Henry-Senachwine) added a 98. Freshman Samantha Soleta (Prophetstown, Ill./Prophetstown) was Sandburg’s fourth scorer, with a 106.

St. Ambrose’s Maitlyn Sanders, a Galesburg High School graduate, was medalist with an 83.

Kishwaukee: Jillian Fuchs 115 (individual), Haleigh Peterson 120 (individual).
