17th Congressional Campaigns Heating Up

The 17th Congressional District Race features Esther Joy King as the Republican on the ballot.  In an interview with WRAM, King says this is the most winnable race by a Republican in the United States.

“We are making a big decision about what direction we want our country to head in. I think we are choosing between being a socialist progressive oriented country or doubling down on American values. There is a lot on the table. We see that even with what has happened with the passing away of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. There is a lot at stake in this 2020 election. Particularly in our race here is the Illinois 17th Congressional District, I am running in the House of Representatives. Nancy Pelosi is Speaker of the House because the Democrats have the majority right now. However, if Republicans can win back the majority, we only need seventeen seats to win back the majority, and there is about 43 competitive seats, so we absolutely can win. In my race here in the Illinois 17th is the number one winnable race in the entire country for Republicans,” King says.

Incumbent Cheri Bustos, the Democrat on the ballot says it has been an honor to receive the support of the people in the District.

“It has been my honor to receive the support of people in this Congressional District and have been serving now for almost eight years as a member of Congress. It is an honor of a lifetime to be able to do that. I hope that things like my endorsement from the Farm Bureau are an indication that I understand issues that are important to our family farmers. The fact that my office has been awarded as one of the top offices in the entire Congress to serve our constituents and we have been able to serve thousands of people just through our case work and helping them with IRS issues or Veteran’s issues or Medicare, Social Security, any of those. I was really pleased to be recognized for that,” Bustos states.

Early voting continues in-person or you can mail-in your ballot or drop it off at the Warren County Courthouse.
